![]() You also get reduced contrast due to the additional elements present. When you use a 1.4X TC you lose one stop directly and should stop down an additional stop to get good image quality. To be honest I most of the time prefer to just crop rather than use a 1.4X TC these days. A TC-14A should fit, if I recall correctly, either lens without modification but is manual focus only. I think a modified 14E will fit the 180mm however. ![]() With most 85mm primes the rear element of the lens would hit the front element of the converter and result in one or both components being damaged, so it is not advisable to try this. However, Nikon put the tab in there to prevent use on lenses for which it is not designed to be used. The TC-14E(II) can be modified to fit some lenses by filing off a tab from the converter.
